How to Get Ladies to Play Golf

Like most couples, when my wife and I were first married we were always looking for ways to spend more time together. Problem was, a lot of things she liked to do I had no interest in doing. And she had little interest in a lot of the things I liked. We lived next to a bookstore, and she would go over there whenever a football game was on.

Fortunately we loved - and still love - each other and we found a way to compromise. Despite not being much into sports my wife is a competitive person. I like to play golf so I invited her out with me one time and she accepted. It turned out to be a great thing as she really learned to like the game.

She kept it up thanks to three things that helped her continue to enjoy the game of golf.

No one likes to play golf when the course is busy and crowded with people, especially a beginner at the game of golf. When just the two of you go at a peak time you are almost certainly going to be paired with another twosome. And if that twosome is making it clear that they are not enjoying playing with a beginner, then you will have a tense round on your hands, and your wife or girlfriend might not want to come back.

But if you go at off-peak times, such as in the late afternoon during the week you can usually play by yourselves and at your own pace. If someone catches up to you, you can just let them play through. Golf is not fun when you are stressed, and if you go when the course is empty you will not be stressed and can have a lot more fun.

And don't forget that off-peak times are cheaper.

It is hard for anyone to learn the game of golf without proper equipment. You should make sure to search for quality ladies golf clubs. Bad golf clubs can lead to a frustrating round as even solid strokes can be sent off target.

There are many golf clubs available for women, and you do not have to spend a lot of money for them. Starter sets can be found at any sporting goods store as well as online. Just make sure to do some searching for just the right sets as you do not want your wife or girlfriend to start a new hobby and get discouraged because she does not like the clubs.

Lastly, good clubs can make her feel like she "fits in" better. Golf can be an intimidating sport, especially for the beginner. You do not want her to feel uncomfortable on the first tee because of clubs that are either old, rusted, or of an inferior quality.

Golf is also intimidating for the beginner because beginners are not the least bit good at the game. It takes a long time to get good at golf, and even then you never feel like you are good enough. When you get your wife or girlfriend a lesson, she will be able to go to the course confident that she can hit a golf ball reasonably well without looking ridiculous.

Lessons also increase the chance that she will hit a great shot. All beginners seem to have one perfect shot per round that draws them back to the course. I still remember my wife hitting a perfect shot over a pond to the green on a long par 3. The shot came out of nowhere, but it was all she needed to come back again.

Find a good instructor and let her learn at her own pace. There are also plenty of female instructors if that will make her more comfortable.

If you enjoy playing golf and spending time with your wife or girlfriend, the two of you can have a lot of fun together if you can get her interested in golf. Find convenient times and get her good clubs and a lesson, and the two of you might just have something new in common.
