There was once a time when alarm clocks consisted of annoying bells and even more annoying buzzers. But once iPods and iPhones came along there was a huge market for iPhone speaker systems to play music with a high quality sound.

Fortunately, that soon meant being woken up to something other than bells, buzzers, and radio stations with bad reception. With the creation of iPhone speaker systems and alarm clocks we can now be woken to the gentle sounding song of our choice.

I have owned several of these iPhone speaker systems and these three are the best I have experienced. If you are looking to give one of these as a gift, I would say go for it.

The Bose SoundDock Series II was the first iPhone speaker system that joined my household. When my wife got her - and the family's - first iPhone we went in search of a speaker that could play our new toy's music.

Not being the most tech-savvy people, we were initially going to buy an Apple speaker system. We were told that it would be best to buy a product made by a company that specializes in sound, so we purchased the Bose SoundDock Series II. It was a great decision.

Coming from Bose I had expected great sound, and this speaker system did not disappoint. The sound quality is amazing. Better than anything I had heard before. It is also extremely easy to use. All you do is set it in the docking station, turn on iTunes on your iPhone or iPod, and let it do its work.

It is also a good size. Large enough to have a good speaker, but it does not look out of place. You almost certainly can find a place to make it complement your home's decor.

The Bose SoundDock Series II costs a little more than other iPhone speaker systems, but you get a very high quality speaker that is easy to use.

The RCA RC65i iPhone/iPod Dual Alarm Clock is a great alarm clock and iPhone speaker system. With a touch screen front, it is very easy to flip between the Radio, iPhone/iPod, Auxiliary, and Off settings.

This alarm clock has the ability to set two different alarms which is great if two people need to wake up at different times. The alarm can be set using a typical buzzer, the radio or the iPhone.

The iPhone setting is what I like the best about this alarm clock. First, my phone fits the docking station even with the protective case still on the phone. Second, when the phone is not docked, the docking station can slide into the speaker to create a more sleek look.

My biggest problem with this iPhone speaker system is that the lights are way too bright. The clock can be dimmed, but if you are a light sleeper you will probably need to place something over the clock. I use a shirt which can be easily removed if I need to check the time in the middle of the night. The setting light is much worse, however. That little blue light with light up the entire bedroom. I have to place a book in front of the light or else I cannot sleep.

However, based on the quality and low price of this alarm clock, I can live with the bright lights. This is a great purchase.

The Philips DC315/37 is a small and sleek iPhone speaker system that produces great sound quality. At just 7" x 7" it fits easily on a bedside table.

This alarm clock also has a radio function, but only plays the FM dial. If you want to listen to an AM station you will not be able to do that with this alarm clock.

However, the music from the iPhone/iPod sounds great. Unfortunately, if you have a protective case on your phone you will either need an adapter or will need to take off the case.

But that is the only problem I have had with this iPhone speaker system. As for the actual alarm clock functions, the Philips DC315/37 gives you the capability to set one alarm for the weekdays and another for the weekends, reducing the need to set different times. Ever been woken up at 6:00 AM on Saturday because you forgot to reset your alarm? You won't have that happen if you use this clock.

Your usual suspects sell these iPhone speaker systems. I have seen them at Walmart, Best Buy, and the Apple store. You can also save some time and possibly money by looking online for them.

These speakers and alarm clocks make a great gift and a fantastic way to add a sleek, great sounding speaker to your home. I have enjoyed these three and I hope you do too.
